Ministry of Youth and Sports Meets National Scrabble Association of Liberia (NASAL) Ahead of African Scrabble Championship

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Atty Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the successful hosting of the 2026 African Scrabble Championship, which will be held in Liberia in October.

The Minister met with officials of NASAL to discuss preparations for the championship, which will bring together players and officials from across Africa. The meeting also focused on developing Scrabble at the grassroots level, particularly in schools and communities.

Scrabble Federation President Lester Morris thanked Minister Kruah for hosting the federation, describing the meeting as a historic moment and, to his knowledge, the first time a sitting Minister of Youth and Sports has directly engaged the Scrabble Federation. He said the engagement represents a step in the right direction for the development of the sport.

Meanwhile, 2026 African Scrabble Championship Organizing Chairman Lynch Monbo thanked the Ministry for welcoming the federation and expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the upcoming championship.

The Ministry and the federation are expected to continue working together as preparations for the continental championship continue.

The minister also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the growth of Scrabble and other sporting disciplines, particularly through youth and grassroots development.
